Fall 2020 tryout information

 

The first day of tryouts/practice for Cross Country, Field Hockey, Soccer, Swimming, and Volleyball will be Monday, 8/31. Cheerleading will  begin Wednesday, September 9.   Monday, 8/31 is FR/JR orientation. No tryouts will start prior to 3:30 p.m.

 

Mercy Tryout/Practice Attendance Procedures

·         Prior to each practice the athlete’s parent/guardian must verify the health of their daughter via the  Wellness Survey (please download and print). If any symptoms on the sheet are affirmative, the athlete is not allowed to attend practice that day. Each athlete’s parent/guardian must print the Wellness Survey, complete it, and send it to practice with their daughter each day.

·         Due to Covid-19 cohort restrictions, athletes cannot tryout for more than one team. Athletes that have registered for more than one sport must decide which tryout to attend in advance. 

·         Locker room availability for changing will be limited to athletes in the building that day. Athletes not in school (weekends, orientation etc.) should arrive at and leave practice in sports attire and are reminded to bring their Wellness Survey to practice.

·         Athletes must bring their own water that will last them the duration of practice. We recommend AT LEAST two bottles of water. No water jugs will be available for refilling.

·         Masks must be worn to and from practice and athletes should maintain social distancing while awaiting direction from the coaching staff. Masks can be worn at all times (athlete discretion).

Swimming will be held at the Middletown YMCA on 99 Union Street, Middletown.

All swimmers should enter at the rear of the building near the YMCA parking lot.

FALL ATHLETE REQUIREMENTS

 

1.) Complete a sport registration ONLINE

Coaches will receive a list of athletes who have registered for each sport prior to tryouts. A sport registration MUST be filled out online to be on this list. Click here to access the online registration (web link is also available on the Mercy website under Athletics/Athletic Training or under the Forms for 2020-2021 tab).

 

New Athletes will be prompted to Sign Up and create a new account using an email, the PARTICIPANT’S name, and a password. Click on “Fall Athletics 2020”, select the desired sport, and fill out all applicable information on the screen.

 

Returning Athletes can select Login and use their previous username and password. Click on “Fall Athletics 2020”, select their name in the dropdown box under “Select a Past Registrant”, and update any new information.

2 . H​ave an up-to-date physical on file with the nurse

No student will be allowed to try out with an outdated physical.

 

**COVID-19 Update: The CIAC has extended the validation of physicals to 15 months for fall sports athletes only, due to the high demand of medical appointments. Students should receive a physical within the 13 month standard when possible

 

3. If you had any surgeries, injuries, or major illnesses within the last year, you must provide a supplemental clearance note from your doctor to return to sports.

 

**COVID-19 Update: Any student with a prior diagnosis of COVID-19, symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, or a "close-exposure" with someone with COVID-19 should contact their medical provider to determine if further evaluation is warranted prior to returning to sports. Written clearance must be provided for any student who had a confirmed case of COVID-19.
